Josie is a proud native of Appomattox, Virginia. She and her husband live on the farm that has been in her family since the early 1700’s. She grew up hearing from family members firsthand accounts of the surrender of General Lee to General Grant and roaming the “Surrender Grounds” and exploring the historical buildings, which developed into a love of History, especially the Civil War that lasts until today. She graduated from Bob Jones University in Greenville, SC with a B.A. in History and continued her education in history in the Masters Program at Virginia Tech.
After retiring from teaching Social Studies at Appomattox County High School, Josie came to work for the Museum of the Confederacy-Appomattox, a site of the American Civil Museum System in January 2012 as the Programs and Interpretation Manager.
